GearLight Flashlight Review
As a home inspector the tool I use most is undoubtedly a flashlight. In this very first installment of Rigid Reviews I review my favorite flashlight, the GearLight. The past 4+ years I have been inspecting homes I have gone through or tried at least 30 different flashlights. I landed on this one as my favorite and most reliable flashlight: GearLight (Buy on Amazon).
The GearLight flashlight is about 5.5 inches long with a 1.5 inch diameter so it’s not too small to where it could be lost easily but it’s also not so large that it becomes a nuisance or inconvenience to carry. It’s just the right size in my opinion. I carry mine in my back left pocket to make it easy to pull out when I need it, which is constant as I go through a house. I probably have it turned on for at least 1+ hours a day.
The GearLight comes with a plastic piece that goes inside it that holds 3 AAA batteries. I don’t recommend using regular AAA batteries because they barely last an hour before noticeably going dull. What I recommend is to purchase 18650 rechargeable batteries (Buy on Amazon) that fit right in it. I have about 10 of those that I keep charged and in my tool bag so I can quickly change them out when the flashlight starts to lose it’s brightness. The 18650 rechargables last a lot longer and save you money being that they are rechargable.
The GearLight has a clip built into it on the side so you can clip it on a tool bag, belt, or your pocket/pants if desired. I don’t personally use this feature (like I said before I just put it in my pocket) but I’m sure it would come in handy for some peopl. It also comes with a tether that you can loop around something or put your wrist through for easy carry, I usually take this off.
I like this specific GearLight more than other similar flashlights on Amazon because it only has one mode, ON. Other flashlights have 5 modes or so that include strobe, dim, bright, etc. I’ve had flashlights like that before and they are a pain because you go to turn it on to look at something and it starts strobing so you have to click the button and cycle through the modes until you land on the one you want. This GearLight just has one mode which is ON and it’s bright.
I was unable to find how many lumens it is but I assure you it is enough. This is brighter than any Stream Light I’ve owned or tried. I’ve included a video below of my review of the flashlight which I demonstrate it’s brightness in a pitch black garage. If you’re on the fence about a flashlight I suggest you purchase this one. It comes in a pack of 2 for $13.99 which is a great deal for what you get. FYI it does not come with batteries. Below are purchase links for the flashlight and the rechargeable batteries.
